About Judge Katy…
Elected in 2010, Judge Katy Hubener is a native of Southwest Dallas County and Duncanville, Texas. She has spent a great majority of her life living and working in Precinct 4.
Katy is a graduate of Duncanville High School. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University and a Master of Arts degree from Claremont Graduate University.
Katy met her husband, David McKamie through politics. Both were state delegates to the Texas Democratic Party State Convention for Hillary Clinton in 2008 and after many years of friendship the two were married in 2011. She has voted in every Democratic primary since she was eligible to vote.
Katy is a mother to her talented 11-year-old daughter, Laila who attends Garner Fine Arts Academy in Grand Prairie and a grandmother to a 1-year-old grandson named Witten.
Serving in one of the busiest courts in the State of Texas, Judge Katy hears a heavy docket of criminal and civil cases. The court receives close to 10,000 filings annually, including approximately 2,800 eviction cases, 2,000 justice cases, 5,000 class C offenses including traffic, toll way violations, and issuance of a bad check. In addition, the court holds multiple administrative hearings including tow hearings, property seizures, driver’s license suspensions, and handgun license revocations.
Judge Katy has made lifelong education a priority and she was admitted to the College of Justice Court Judges in 2012 by the Texas Justice Court Judges Association. This honor is bestowed upon less than one percent of the 800 Justices of the Peace throughout the state of Texas. She frequently attends continuing legal education through the State Bar of Texas.
